One thing I have changed in my laundry routine… washing everyone’s clothes together.
I know really not a big deal! But laundry was constantly building up in everyone’s closets. Once those clothes were clean they just stayed “clean” on the floor or chair never making it to their final destination.
This may change in a year again when my oldest should be able to tackle doing her laundry once a week. But as for now I wash everyone’s clothes together. But wait there is more!
Another trick I pulled out of my sleeve… I put a load of laundry in the washing machine before bed. But I don’t turn on the machine. I know mic drop. I put my laundry detergent in and run it in the morning before I grab my coffee. For some reason grabbing the clothes and filling the machine in the morning just seemed overwhelming. Putting clothes in the machine at night also leaves you feeling accomplished. But wait there is more!
I do a load of laundry once a day. Every morning I bring hangers into the laundry room. I have a clothes rod in my laundry room all shirts go straight from the dryer on the rod. I also have folding laundry baskets to separate everyone’s clothes in. So everything goes straight into their baskets. Hung shirts go into the baskets. And when the children have chore time away only a few pieces of laundry go to be put away. (I have learned this system is sewing seeds for when they are older and more able to do laundry on their own. Every child is different mine are just not there yet.)
Using these simple tricks has really helped keep the laundry at bay! I have been able to get laundry done first thing before going out and running errands, play dates and all the things that keep us from completing tasks. Sometimes it’s just keeping things accessible like the folding baskets and hangers. And sometimes it’s just tricking your brain into feeling accomplished and not overwhelmed.
Happy Laundry 🧺
